If a customer calls Register.com customer “no service” trying to retrieve
an expired domain, even at a premium, the customer service rep hands over the
domain to NVS
even as he/she is speaking to the
customer.
The rep creates a
support ticket and hands it over to NVS, who then emails the original registrant,
pretending to be a separate entity from Registrar.com, when, in fact, these two
companies are thick as thieves and, quite possibly, both owned by Web.com.
NVS then
offers the domain back to the original registrant at a $125 or more premium.
One customer paid this fee and reported that NVS refused to transfer the name,
instead sending the name to auction with the customer’s payment as a opening
bid. Read more here.
Best yet, AVOID
using Register.com
at all; this is a dirty company that revels in jerking customers around. After
I called about redeeming an expired domain (well within 45 days of expiration),
it was handed over to this shell company who then tried extorting me. The
domain is now for sale on Sedo, an auction platform, for $377.
This greedy
registrar is not at all customer oriented – it seems to go out of its way to
sandbag its customers and taking joy in it.
